PROFESSIONAL PRODUCT

One of the objectives of my placement company is to create systems for organizing events to implement them in other cities and businesses; Therefore,

I will write a project plan which serves as a blueprint for the future 5 City Tour. The project plan entails a general part (background, introduction), a program (concept & program) and TOQFIM (Time, organization, quality, facilities, information & communication and money). Lastly, an evaluation is included in order to finalize the project and to see where the minor points of improvement are located.

Main outcomes of the interview with a fourth year student; Paul.

  • A visa is very dependent on the country you are going to be on a placement. In the EU, one does not have to worry about a visa, however outside of Europe one has to apply for a work or intern visa. Often you have to send a letter of confirmation of the host company. In Switzerland a student visa was sufficient, however in Dubai it was very hard to apply for a visa. Paul had to send his certificates to the government to acknowledge officially that he graduated in the delivered certificates. Therefore, you have to research thoroughly on applying for a visa for America.

  • When looking at housing in other countries, Facebook is a super platform. Many student apartments are offered there of other students who are also going abroad. For instance, in Lausanne the Facebook page was called ‘Rent and subletting in Lausanne’ or ‘Dutch people in Switzerland’. In Bern I rented a place from a German girl which he found via Facebook.

  • Another aspect what could help is to have international connections. Paul knows people which are currently studying in all Europe. They are moving quite a lot to, therefore they are renting their rooms out. This is a good and effective way to help people.

  • When going abroad it is much nicer if you are living together with a number of people which hopefully are fun people. Especially when you are living there for a short period to have a great time.

  • Always look at the rules and regulations in the country you are visiting. Often you could find the information about practical things at the Dutch embassy. Sometimes the website could be not up to date or there is no information on the website. Then I would suggest to email the embassy for additional information, because it is literally their job to provide that kind of information.
